Studying rasa surfaces and marine terraces in slow uplifting coasts, Western Europe.

Wednesday 25 July 2018 kl. 07:51

The Cotentin Peninsula (Normandy, France) displays sequences of marine terraces and rasas, the latter being wide Late Cenozoic coastal erosion surfaces, that are typical of the slow uplifting Western European coasts in Portugal, Spain, France and southern England. Here we use TerraceM to map rasa surfaces ad determine the spatial distribution of marine terraces, reconstruct the paleogeographic coastal morphology of this area, and evaluate along strike variations in vertical deformation and potentially active structures.

TerraceM application at Konya, Turkey

Thursday 19 May 2016 kl. 17:59

Fixed cliff analysis in Konya, Turkey. This is a TerraceM method for shoreline angle calculation in terraces covered by calcrete or beach rock (A) exposing the free face along continious outcrops in the Lake Konya, Turkey (B). (C) The soreline angle is located at the intersection between two linear interpolations on the paleo- platform and one point defining the free face. Field measurements of the free face slope using inclinometer are requiered to calibrate the interpolations (D).

TerraceM in Nature Geosciences

Tuesday 29 March 2016 kl. 19:18

A new publication in Nature Geosciences about earthquake deformation and coastal uplift in northen Chile using TerraceM mapping methods in rasas or reoccupied marine terraces coupled with a landscape evolution model. This paper proposes an new perspective of accumulation of permanent deformation in the upper crust through supercycle deep events. Codes and GUI will be avaliable soon.
