September 3rd (Tuesday), 12:00. Adolfo Cisterna (UCentral, Santiago): Homogeneous AdS Black Strings in Scalar-Tensor and Lovelock Branes with Fluxes. Abstract: In this talk we will show how it is possible to construct homogenous AdS black strings and black p-branes in GR and Lovelock gravities. We will show their connection with Scalar-Tensor theories and with Kaluza-Klein compactifications in the presence of higher dimensional matter Lagrangians. We will extend our results to construct Lovelock branes with p-form fluxes.

October 17th (Thursday) 15:00-17:00, Nelson Merino, UNAP (Iquique) Chern-Weil theorem and boundary terms in gravity actions (minicourse) Abstract: Two mathematical approaches that are commonly used in the construction of gravity theories: tensorial and Cartan language. It is usually said that they are completely equivalent and that the translation between them should be evident. However, there are cases where a result in one side is not clearly understood in the other, because the translation is not obvious. This is the case of the Katz, Bicak and Lynden-Bell (KBL) procedure, which is constructed in the tensorial language and allows to have a well-defined variational principle as well as finite conserved charges in general relativity. Up to now, it was not known how this method reads in Cartan language, neither how it could be generalized to more general theories (e.g., Lovelock gravity). In this work we use the Chern-Weil theorem and an auxiliary "hybrid" manifold to provide the translation of the Katz boundary term into the Cartan language. As a consequence, this give us a guideline to make the generalization of the KBL procedure for a generic Lovelock gravity. Possible new applications in other contexts (like in double field theory and in the so-called dressing field method) are also discussed.
