INTERACTIVE EDUCATION: A Management and Innovation Model

Summary
This is a project financed by FONDEF a nacional committee that promotes sciences and tecnology development through innovative proyects supported by cientific research.
The current research and development proyect is a multidisciplinary initiative proposed by the Social Science Faculty at the University of Conception.

Target
16 rural and urban little cities, between 5.000 and 150.000 residents. The activities are planed specially for students between 9 and 16 years; and in general for all the local community.

Objectives
1.- Develop a management and innovation model for use in educational settings ennhancing the integrative role of the scolastic system between the industrial sector, the public sector, the family, and the environment.
2.- Apply this model in the formal scolastic system and in the popular culture of the local communities to enhance the elements of fairness and quality in education and to approach cience and tecnology.
3.- Research width and validity of the model.
4.- Transfer the experience and the results of the research to disseminate the interactive education model.

The project is designed around three stages:
1.- Training and development: Human resource development through a integral training in science, management, interactive education and local development. This training metodology will further allow the participants to serve as change agents in their local communities.

2.- Intervention and research
Intervention in the local school system using an interactive mobil unit, managed by local participants, formed into development teams.
Using both quantitative and qualitative analytical methods, an exploratory investigation of the interactive educational model will be conducted to determine the factors that hinder the processes of development and implementation in specific localities.

3.- Dissemination of the results from the intervention and research: Design of a sistem of management for the model of interactive education, and dissemination of the project experience/intervention and the results of the research to encourage replication of the project.
