RAFAEL BERMÚDEZ is an undergraduate student from ECUADOR, and he is studying marine biology in our university. His undergraduate thesis will be focused in nutrient and pigment analysis, phytoplankton community structure, and primary productivity estimations in a river-influenced and non-river influenced continental shelf adjacent to Itata River off Central Chile. Rafael Bermúdez will be developed under the guidance and advising of Dr. José Luis Iriarte (UACH), the co-researcher of our FONDECYT PROJECT 1060709 (OMMIX PROJECT). Most field and experimental activities will be also developed during the field campaigns in Coliumo Bay and Itata River mouth during the development of the OMMIX PROJECT. Laboratory Skills - Phytoplankton and microbial analysis under inverted and epifluorescence microscopy. - Size-fractionated photosynthethic pigments by fluorometry. - Phytoplankton biomass estimations. - Primary production by 14C method
