I study the causes, spatial patterns and impacts of land use change in dryland and temperate forests in Chile. In our Laboratory of Landscape Ecology (LEP) we assess and model the impacts of LUC on forest biodiversity and diverse ecosystem services.
In our Lab (LEP), we use different spatially explicit modelling approaches to analyse the diverse impacts of land use change:
- GEOMOD: deforestation patterns and drivers in southern Chile
-LANDIS II: forest dynamics in Central Chile
-LCM (Land Change Modeler): land use change in different temperate landscape
-Hydrologycal models: N-SPECT and others in Lake watersheds
-FRAGSTATS: Fragmentation analysis in temperate landscapes
- STELLA: process-based model in southern Chile
- MAXENT: Species distribution of threatened plants in central Chile

I’m working on restoration projects of degraded forests and coordinate the Latin American network for ecological restoration (REDLAN). I’m also dedicated to contribute to the biodiversity conservation and sustainable use of natural resources in Chile.
